if you can fill the unforgiving minute
with sixty seconds’ worth of distance run
yours is the earth, and everything that’s in it

DAY 5 OF NEOREEVES’S 30 DAYS KEANU REEVES CHALLENGE — Ah, the Matrix. Legitimately the first Keanu movie I watched, back when I was a wee child, this movie made me cry and hide my face in my dad’s shirt sleeve because the Agents’ bug crawling into Tommy’s bellybutton scared me to death. The Matrix is a piece of cinematic genius. The fight scenes are brilliant, the worlds are completely original, and everything about it is just so fantastic it makes me cry for different reasons, now. Admittedly, Reloaded and Revolutions don’t have as much a place in my heart as the first film, but the entire trilogy, when put together, is just this… ball of poetic beauty. Neo is a beautiful character, and so is Thomas A. Anderson, despite his short amount of screentime. Sometimes I watch this movie and think to myself—this was the guy who played Ted. It’s just… so wonderful.
